464-5-.03.1 Annual Firearms
a. Each person employed or appointed as a peace officer shall, as a part of the annual training required by O.C.G.A. 35-8-21, satisfactorily complete during each calendar year the annual firearms training mandated by this rule. The failure by any peace officer to attend and successfully complete the training required by this rule shall result in the loss of that officer's power of arrest as set forth in O.C.G.A. 35-8-21 (d).
b. Annual firearms training shall, at a minimum, consist of three hours of training provided by a POST-certified instructor, which training shall include, but not be limited to:

GA O.C.G.A. 35-8-16. Effect of standards and training requirements provided in chapter; adoption of additional requirements by law enforcement units.
This chapter establishes only the minimum qualification standards and training requirements for peace officers in this state; each law enforcement unit is encouraged to prescribe such additional requirements as it deems necessary and appropriate.

The setting of minimum standards meets the requirements of state law and the established rules of the council. This will allow agencies the opportunity to meet requirements and the freedom to exceed the standards as encouraged by state law.
